Module 5: Art Making/Material Exploration #2: Logo Design

Creating my own logo made me excited even though I am not the most creative person when it comes to making using my ideas.

I decided to go with a simple approach of having my initials to mainly compose the logo. I was also thinking of adding my personal interests embossed inside the initials to show what represents me, but I figured that making the logo not too complex would make it look better. Also, making the logo in the colors of the Chinese flag to represent my culture was something I wanted to do in the first place.

Furthermore, what I discovered when creating the logo was that it is better to go with a simple approach rather than creating a logo with too many parts and different colors. I chose to use only three colors for the logo to make it look simple.

The most important information that I learned from watching the videos is the long process involved and the attention to detail that they do in creating a logo. For example, there were several logo proposals that Digital Animations Group (DAI) had to choose from before they finally decided on a logo. Also, when creating the logo, certain details such as the spacing between the red and white rings, and how five rings were used instead of three just shows how much attention to detail was put in creating the logo. Similarly, the video about Marmite’s repackaging also involved rebranding. The changing of the product’s packaging also needed a new logo.
