Module 5: Project # 2 Art Gallery Visit # 1 - Responding to Artwork

Domoto Hisao’s Painting, 1958.

Rene Magritte’s La Voix Des Airs, 1928

The first artwork that made an impression on me was Domoto Hisao’s Painting, 1958. My first look at it and it grabbed my attention immediately with its combination of strokes and color. The other artwork that grabbed my attention was Rene Magritte’s La Voix Des Airs, 1928. This artwork captured my attention with its use of contrast of black and white.

Ellsworth Kelly's New York, NY, 1957
Seymour Haden's Hand Painting, 1870

Moreover, the artwork by Ellsworth Kelly named New York, NY, 1957 made me feel that I have a connection with because of the style of the art. The art is modern and street style, and felt that it was something I would like to have in my home. Another artwork that made a connection to me was Hand Painting, 1870 by Seymour Haden. This artwork was very unique. It was more like a sketch and it felt unfinished. However, I felt the connection immediately with this art.

Fab 5 Freddy's Wall Painting for a House in New York, 1985
Marc Chagall’s La Vie Paysanne, 1925
Furthermore, the first artwork that I would like to know more about is Wall Painting for a House in New York, 1985 by Fab 5 Freddy. The artwork is unique because it has an animal in the middle that looks like a combination of a horse and a duck. I would like to know how the artist came out with the idea of creating this animal. The other artwork that I would like to know more about is Marc Chagall’s La Vie Paysanne, 1925. The artwork is also unique and has several images placed together. I would like to know more about each image and what the meaning of the artwork is.

  1. Moyi, I really enjoy the 6 artworks that you decided to pick for this project. They all seem like they are special in their own way to you. My favorite one that you picked was the artwork by Ellsworth Kelly, New York, NY. I also like how modern this artist's style is and how simple it is.
