Module 6: Video Review

In the video “Through the Eyes of a Sculptor”, I learned that carving is similar to the sculptors of the past. However, the statue and the figure is the ultimate work of the sculptor, and they rarely do not have the chance to create their own stature. Carvers are usually not given the task to do sculpting on a whole figure. Choosing materials used for carving is chosen for carefully. Certain elements are considered such as how the material can handle, how much it can be carved, how resistant, where it is placed such as either indoor or outdoor. Furthermore, in the video “Glass and Ceramics”, I learned that the temperature of the heat is important in creating glass. Also, I found interesting to learn about the use of cementation makes the colors in stained glass. For ceramics, it is heated with clay instead of silica which is used in glass. The quality of the ceramic depends on the level of heat and raw materials used.

The video on sculpting shows how carving and sculptures are done, especially from the beginning when choosing what type of material is being used such as marble. Also, in the glass and ceramics video, it shows how glass and ceramics are made. In the text, it just provides information on how and where these types of art came from.

Furthermore, the first video provides an explanation on how sculptures are created then restored through time, while also showing the steps on what sculptors do. In the second video, the creation of glass and stained glass is shown, which gives the viewers on idea of how exactly it is done. Similarly, the same can be said for ceramics in the video, where it shows how it is made and decorated.
