When I first started the course,
my expectations were to learn about understanding the meaning and uses of art,
and to have a better understanding of concepts, different interpretations, and
development of art. I felt that learning about the principles, themes, styles
and history of art has helped me meet these expectations.
After
learning through the course, I would define art as a part of culture, history,
and society, which encourages people to show their creativeness and express
their feelings by sending out messages through their work.
My favorite
visual artist at the beginning of the course was Cai Guo-Qiang. Cai Guo-Qiang
uses gunpowder and fireworks as his tools to make art, which I found very
interesting. After going through the course, I have become more interested in
artists such as Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi’s works in architecture are amazing, and to
see his works in person when I visited Barcelona in the past has made me
appreciate it more after learning more about his works in this course.
I have taken a few online courses in the past and I still feel
the same way in taking online courses. I feel that the course load for online
courses can be heavy, especially with the amount of readings, discussions, and
assignments that are due almost every week. This was the same case in this
course as there are many things due each week. It was hard to keep up with all
the deadlines, but I thought it was manageable with planning ahead of time.
