Module 10: Video Review

I chose the videos “Buddhism” and “Chinese Art: Treasures of the National Palace Museum”. I selected these videos because I am interested in learning more the development of art in Asia, in particular in China, as well as the impact of Buddhism in art. I am also interested in learning more about Chinese art, since I was born in China.

The video “Buddhism” discusses how the religion has spread all over Asia and around the world from India, and how it has influenced architecture of many famous buildings. Buddhism has been prominent in creating new buildings in different parts of the world such as monasteries and shrines.

The video “Chinese Art: Treasures of the National Palace Museum” is about the long history of Chinese art. The video shows many arts from the National Palace Museum that come from different periods in China. The video provides detailed information on art in different periods in China’s history including the origins and inspiration for the art.

The videos are related to the readings because they show different art and architecture from around the world that has been influenced by Buddhism. As mentioned in the textbook, the images of Buddha were used in art. In addition, the textbook also provides information on Chinese Art, in particular during the Han, Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties.
