Module 10: Art Making/Material Exploration: Mask Making
The three inspiration pieces are different masks that are based from my interests. I want to create a mask that would represent who I am as a person. The first image is a dragon mask. The texture and the lines in the mask would be similarly used for the mask that I would create. Also, the dragon mask has flames that I want to also use for my mask. In addition, the next mask that I used for inspiration is the Chinese Nuo Monkey mask. I chose this mask as an inspiration because of its resemblance to the Monkey King, which was an important figure in Chinese folklore, and I wanted to use some its features on creating my mask. Finally, the last inspiration I chose was the White Ranger mask from Power Rangers. I always liked the overall design of the mask, especially the repetition of pattern and lines on the sides of the mouth of the mask.
The elements I used in my finished mask were lines, shapes and color. I used the element of lines in creating the eye shades and diagonal lines on the sides of the mask. I used shapes such as the letter M to represent my name to be part of the design of the mask. Finally, I used several colors in my mask including red, black and yellow.
The principles I used in my finished mask were symmetrical balance and rhythm. There is a symmetrical balance in both sides of the mask, as the left and right are equal to each other. There is also rhythm in the lines and shapes used in creating the
My finished mask is more than I expected it to be. I am not very creative but I wanted to create a mask that would reflect who I am and I have achieved that goal with what I have finished.
